Jane Austen's House

When friends from New Zealand visited on the 2nd July, it tipped down with torrential rain all day.  But we were not daunted and were determined to show them something of the area and we decided to visit Jane Austen's 17th century house in the pretty village of Chawton.  The house is where she spent the last 8 years of her life and contains genuine memorabilia and manuscripts.  It is run by volunteers who are passionate about Jane Austen.  The house has a lived-in feel and is always bright with flowers picked from the beautiful old-English garden.  All the pictures were taken in the rain!

  1. Anne, it's so special to see these photos because I've been in bed with the flu, and reading - guess what! - Jane Austen's Persuasion, which she would have written while living in this very house. How charming it is, and what a colourful garden.
Blogspot has stopped alerting me to your posts, but luckily I decided to go hunting!

  2. Hope you get over the flu very quickly. It was pouring with rain when I took the pictures which is why the colours are so vivid. The most wonderful things in the museum are actual manuscripts in Jane's beautiful handwriting. The museum is run by volunteers and all the rooms have vases of flowers which make it seem very homely.
